December is my Favourite

[dropcap]W[/dropcap]eek 19; belly watch continues. Oh, and it’s a big WELCOME to December too. Every week, I have the Big Brother voice counting down the week in my head. Today is a hello to week 19- past four months, but not quite five. Last week we put up our Christmas tree. I know! Already! But it just worked out that way, and to be honest, I am very much enjoying it. Almost as much as Pepper’s annual Christmas hat photo- doesn’t he look like he’s loving it? 😉 Oh! and SNOW! I love how happy snow makes everyone in London; we never get decent snowfall, so waking up on Sunday morning to a blanket of white was the best surprise.[vc_row][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_single_image image=”18689″ img_size=”large” css=”.vc_custom_1516884168545{padding-top: 0px !important;}”][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1516884255072{padding-top: 130px !important;padding-right: 40px !important;padding-bottom: 150px !important;padding-left: 40px !important;background-color: #f8f3f0 !important;}”]

Putting up the Christmas tree early has actually been a good remedy for the winter doldrums. The living room smells of pine and having the lights glow in the evening makes me feel cosy and content…even when two cats start a game of bat the candy canes off the tree. It was nice that we both got to decorate it this year to cheesy Christmas songs (Wham, FYI)  and that we get a whole month out of it compared to last year’s last minute half panicked- 4 days before Christmas- refurb angry-place the tree next to the a wheel barrow of sand shenanigans…

Ohhh man. This past week of pregnancy has been like a flashback to the early days. Nausea in the evenings, sudden urges to nap at odd hours of the day, a breakout of spots on my face and the delightful feeling of my belly stretching…It’s been an uncomfortable week! Once upon a time, I could sleep through an earthquake, but now all it takes to wake me up in the middle of the night (besides my ever shrinking bladder) is a snort from Pepper. All of this has made me a little cranky in the day time and an absolute joy to be around 🙂 So, Week 19- still waiting on that pregnancy glow.

I feel like you have to be a whip shot on Asos to get hold of anything nice ( you know what I mean? no surprise cutouts on the back or motifs that don’t need to exist) so I snapped up this dress quickly on Sunday night for a wedding I’m going to this weekend. It’s since Sold Out but you can get it in burgundy in a mini dress version, or in blue in a maxi dress version here. Or, I’m sure it’ll restock as popular pieces tend to do. It’s velvety soft, perfect for Winter (and Christmas parties) and the stretchy waistband means that my growing bump can nestle comfortably underneath it. I’m wearing it with a pair of gold tassel earrings from H&M![/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1516884595676{padding-top: 130px !important;padding-right: 40px !important;padding-bottom: 155px !important;padding-left: 40px !important;background-color: #f8f3f0 !important;}”]

What did you do on your Snow Day yesterday? After waking up early, I pretty much stayed glued to the window watching it fall and releasing the cats into it- they’ve never seen snow before. Pepper absolutely loved it and Louie…preferred the comforts of home and underfloor heating. It was completely unexpected too, which made it an even bigger treat to wake up to. I don’t think I’ve ever leapt out of bed that early on a Sunday with so much enthusiasm! Now I look out to the sleeting rain and already the lovely snowy day feels like…did that really happen? The last really good snowfall here was 2010, when it stuck around for a good week. Come oooon, let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!

Last year, before a festive time on the John Lewis roof top, I did some window shopping in town. Liberty’s was beautiful (but also, The Nutcracker is my fav so it was always a winner) This year, I attempted to do a Christmas shopping mooch, thinking I’d get most things done. NOPE.BIG. MISTAKE.  I lasted nearly two hours before I fled home on the Victoria line. Pregnancy takes up so much of your energy that I spent most of that time looking for a toilet and watching people dodge past me (I’m also now a slow walker thanks to an increasingly big bump) I couldn’t even tell you what Liberty’s theme is this year! Although, I do feel like I ought to make a bigger effort to carry my big camera with me from now one because this picture is prettier than anything my iPhone could snap.

[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]It’s my birthday this week and I’m kind of stuck as to what to do. I prefer keeping it low key with minimal fuss- usually a nice meal at a restaurant. But this year, with baby halving my stomach size (and aversions!) a fancy meal out feels like it might be a bit wasted. To be honest, I’m more excited for our anomaly scan the day after for it means we find out if baby is a boy or a girl! I think once I know, it’ll make it feel more real? Like there’s an actual human in there and not just a growing belly full of Wotsits.

I re-read my maternity notes recently (all mums to be are given a big yellow book to carry to all your appointments) and I realised the sonographer wrote that I have an anterior placenta, meaning instead of hanging out in the back near my spine, baby and placenta are all at the front wanting to hang out with the world…I *think* that explains why I look bigger than most mums at this stage (or maybe you know…the belly full of Wotsits again)

Anyway, happy Monday chickens. Here’s to a couple more weeks until Christmas![/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]

  1. I’ve got a bunch of bump shots coming up very soon! For all my whining, I do love being pregnant, although it is a very strange thing to go through and fascinating to watch my body change! (although, i miss eating food like a normal person…that part I would very much like to return!)
