Life Lately | a self imposed time out

[dropcap]I[/dropcap]’ve deliberately taken some time away from the screen recently- because 1) my eyes and 2) I’ve been dealing with tricky tricky real life! I’m one of those people that turns the brightness way down on their computer and phone because the glare beaming at me produces a most marvellous headache. Do. Not. Want. It’s quite nice getting home and not booting up the laptop again, or getting stuck on a scrolling cycle on my phone. I treated myself to a pay day haul which you might have caught on Insta Stories featuring the best high waisted trousers I now own. A few bits at home are being finished this week (hooray!) and I’m looking forward to a bit of family time this weekend![vc_row][vc_column][vc_separator border_width=”3″][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_single_image image=”18151″ img_size=”1000×1500″][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1516890114077{padding-top: 160px !important;padding-right: 40px !important;padding-bottom: 200px !important;padding-left: 40px !important;background-color: #f8f3f0 !important;}”]

I think I bought these trousers because they screamed of old timey boxer at me. Like I should have a curly moustache and do things like exclaim “Ye Gads!” out loud. Nobody exclaims anymore, they just tweet. Anyway, I got a few things that will transition well into Autumn- the running theme is that I like a high waisted trou. More room for the belly. They’re from Monki, but Asos also currently have all the sizes in stock too- over here!

Picture taken hastily at work, in case someone wandered in and saw me taking a self timer selfie at 9am. My wall leaning, 7 out of 10.

As part of the refurb, we switched the living room to become the master bedroom. All year, we’ve had the old living room blinds with the intention of replacing them with white shutters.  And then, to block out more light (as we can only fall asleep in dark, cave like conditions) we pegged an old pair of curtains across the window too. It was U.G.L.Y but you know, make do and all that until the new installation. WELL TODAY IS THAT DAY! They were installed before I even had a chance to finish my morning coffee. Shoutout to my bathrobe hanging on the cupboard.

Sunday, we did something waaaay out there. We got up. We went for dim sum. We went shopping.

I know, riveting! But being somewhat of a tennis widow this year, it was so nice to get out and do something together rather than a hasty hello and goodbye as I watch my husband dash to tennis training.

FYI, my favourite dim sum dish is a fried shrimpy turnip cake thing that’s crispy on the outside. Such was my haste in scoffing it down, I didn’t take a photo (I mean, it’s a square turnip thing, it isn’t going to win any prizes on looks) But here are some siu mai dumplings as an offering instead.

Reading: Lord of Shadows by Cassandra Clare – it’s a fantasy trilogy set in the Shadowhunter world. I like the world the author has created and it’s just a good series to get lost in and enjoy for what it is.

Listening:I tend to leave Spotify running in the background, right now it’s playing Everywhere by Fleetwood Mac.

Watching:Ozark on Netflix. It’s a really, good grippy drama that I found myself getting sucked into as Robin watched. Oh, and also Game of Thrones. Of course.

  2. I definitely know what you mean about the screen thing – lately it’s been making me feel so lethargic! I should take a page from your book and try to do it less, maybe go for more walks or just read an actual book.

I hope your tricky real life stuff is getting better, by the way! Life can be very testing sometimes, so I’m sending you a lot of virtual hugs! x

  3. This is such a beautifully constructed post! Sometimes, we all need to wind down a little bit. I might need something like this for myself really soon.
