Life Lately | Face masks, a Kitten + Instagram

[dropcap]I[/dropcap]ts creeping to the two week mark since we’ve come back from holiday. The tan is starting to fade (but not Robin’s, because ugh, of course), my body clock has almost fully adjusted (goodbye early morning productivity) and generally it’s just back to being beaten down by reality. As normal. Oh and it’s the first trip back to the gym tonight. Double ugh. I think this past weekend was the last indulgent one for a while- but I have no regrets! There’s been an enormous heap of wonderful meals and a few treats in between- so ok. Life lately, it really hasn’t been all that bad ;)[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_separator border_width=”3″][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_single_image image=”15928″ img_size=”large” css=”.vc_custom_1516898778912{margin-top: 0px !important;}”][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1516898821776{padding-top: 150px !important;padding-right: 40px !important;padding-bottom: 160px !important;padding-left: 40px !important;background-color: #f8f3f0 !important;}”]

Sunday afternoon, I had a long and lazy dim sum lunch with Ismay and some girlfriends at Park Chinois in Mayfair. It’s another Alan Yau venture and it’s a beautiful venue. Plush velvet curtains and seating- it’s very 1930’s Shanghai meets jazz era.

The food was delicious, the service impeccable and it was a lovely few hours spent! The prices are typical of Mayfair, but it’s a good spot for a special occasion or for a group of friends. The cheung fun and soup dumplings were my favourite dishes- and the Kombucha Scrub I chose to drink was delicious.

The other night we had dinner at Dishoom in Kings Cross. Dishoom serve free mint tea to those waiting, which I thought was a nice way of saying ‘thank you for coming and sorry for this ridiculous queue’. Our meal was good- fat, juicy charred prawns, tender lamb chops, beautifully rich black dhal and tissue paper thin roti.

On the way back, we stopped at the bird cage and took turns on the swing. Then pointed at everything and said Harry Pottah, because this is Kings Cross after all.

One of the girls at work brought in her 4 month old, Scottish Fold kitten called Dee Dee.

She was a walking ball of fluffy marshmallow with soft bunny rabbit fur. I called her a fairy princess and spoke in a really high pitched voice all day.

She looks mighty unimpressed here, but I’ve never met a kitten that was so chilled out and happy to snuggle. I had her in the crook of my arm for at least an hour because she fell asleep and its the law that you must never wake a sleeping kitty. *sigh* I love her.

Over the weekend, I tried the Estee Lauder Advanced Repair foil mask. I haven’t used a face mask in years, but this one I was interested in because if it’s good enough for VB…I felt like I’d scare small children wearing this, and my face tingled a bit, but this week two people have said I have a nice holiday glow. I mean it could be that, but really I think it’s the good old Hyaluronic Acid in the serum. I bought a 4 pack of these, because GLOW (and pimple destroyer)

Instagram is a funny old thing. You gain a few followers, you lose a ton of followers. I really enjoy the app for what it is though- beautiful photo sharing, but sometimes I’m like come onnnn and get really fed up with the lack of growth. But in the past couple of months, I noticed that posting at different times than normal saw a huge difference in engagement and likes.

My latest Instagram of the bakery in Broadway Market hit 380 likes last night, and for me, that is a huge number. It could also mean that a lot of people just really like bread.

Kittens, face masks and bread. That’s honestly not a bad week to be fair! Other recently enjoyed things?

Putting away the winter coat and swapping it out for a light Spring appropriate one (namely my beloved Mango one with the red trim that I am still obsessed with)

Sleeping cats on feet. Never gets old, especially in the middle of the night. That, my friends, is the definition of hyyge.

Early(ish) bed times. I realised just how little sleep I had been getting whilst on holiday and I’m making it my serious mission to get to bed a couple of hours earlier. You know the sleepless circle- 10pm becomes 11, becomes midnight, becomes 1am. It wasn’t good for me and now I’m getting into PJ’s earlier and reading an actual book before bed rather than scrolling through my phone. I feel so much better the next day.

And of course- lighter evenings! I am loving coming home when it is still light outside. I feel like I’m getting the most out of the day and that lovely, lovely summer is on its way soon.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]

  1. I would hurdle over my own grandmother to eat Dishoom’s black daal. It’s one of my favourite dishes ever.

I liked reading through this, and totally agree on the Instagram thing. No idea why it happens though! Adore looking at bakeries, so that photo looks stunning to me! Have a good weekend xo
