The Year of the Good, the Bad & the Ugly

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text][dropcap]E[/dropcap]very year, I wrap up the highlights of the past 12 months. But 2016, I don’t know, it’s been an unusual year. It’s been quite intense and I, like so many others I’m sure, cannot wait to ring in the New Year for a fresh, new, hopeful chapter. This tumultuous year has made me grateful for the positive things that did occur this year.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_text_separator title=”FOUR SEASONS” color=”custom” border_width=”2″ accent_color=”#ff8d6b”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1516901332679{padding-top: 100px !important;padding-right: 40px !important;padding-bottom: 130px !important;padding-left: 40px !important;background-color: #f8f3f0 !important;}”]

Our first wedding anniversary was spent at the Four Seasons in Hampshire one sunny weekend. We went shooting, rode bikes, saw horses and cows and tried to befriend a dog called Oliver.  I even squeezed in time at the spa. As paper anniversaries go- this one was awesome.

The highlight of the year? Most definitely the trip to New York with my sister. I felt more relaxed this time round. Experiencing the small things in the city- watching baseball games in Central Park, ice lollies along the High Line, sandwiches in the park in Brooklyn, dinner in the Lower East Side, tater tots, these were the things that made this trip feel special and a silver lining in a tough year.

This year, I took it slow and steady with the blog and this included blog events. Learning to adjust to a new, healthier pace in life meant that the pressure to cram in all of the everything fell away. However, the blog events I did go to were excellent!  The White Company threw an amazing garden party in Eltham Palace, John Lewis recreated Christmas magic and Mercure Hotels held a lovely picnic at Somerset House.

It was also the year I decided to get my panic attacks under control and went to therapy. I can’t stress enough how helpful it was. Like the gym, it wasn’t always easy to go but I haven’t had a single anxiety or panic attack since my sessions ended with the Summer; not saying that I don’t get stressed out now, I just know when my limits are being reached.

[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_text_separator title=”HOME” color=”custom” border_width=”2″ accent_color=”#ff8d6b”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1516901437568{padding-top: 100px !important;padding-right: 40px !important;padding-bottom: 110px !important;padding-left: 40px !important;background-color: #f8f3f0 !important;}”]

If this year had a theme it was one thing; home renovation. We are now finished (apart from the garden and few small bits) but it was right up until Christmas Eve that things were still being hammered and scrubbed. I’m spending this festive break grateful that it’s over and enjoying getting cosy (at last!) with our furballs.

[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_single_image image=”14881″ img_size=”800×800″][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_text_separator title=”WRAP IT UP ALREADY!” color=”custom” border_width=”2″ accent_color=”#ff8d6b”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_single_image image=”14567″ img_size=”large”][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1516901475107{padding-top: 140px !important;padding-right: 40px !important;padding-bottom: 160px !important;padding-left: 40px !important;background-color: #f8f3f0 !important;}”]

If 2016 was the year of the home renovation, I hope 2017 is the year of more calm and less upheaval. I want to get back into doing normal things again, instead of rushing home to finish this, that or the other. In fact, sitting here now, at our new kitchen table, in the new part of our flat, overlooking our (kind of muddy) garden is really nice. Calming nice. In 2017, I want to gain a few more laughter lines, spend more time with my favourite people and take my camera out more often. Oh, and maybe actually wear a pair of matching socks.

Happy New Year everyone- I know we’ve all got BIG hopes for it!
