Life Lately | The Festive Spirit

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text][dropcap]L[/dropcap]ast week was one of those weeks where I face planted my head into my hands at least 10 times a day. Maybe 20. I had no festive spirit, no Christmas break anticipation, it was just one big fat BLEURGH. It’s funny how one weekend can do a world of good. What I thought would be one headache of a weekend juggling ongoing flat work, was actually…pretty fun, like life used to be before this palaver of a house started! Amidst all of that was a birthday. Here’s a little Life Lately catch up…[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_text_separator title=”34″ color=”custom” border_width=”2″ accent_color=”#ff8d6b”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1516901675618{padding-top: 100px !important;padding-right: 40px !important;padding-bottom: 100px !important;padding-left: 40px !important;background-color: #f8f3f0 !important;}”]

I am a Birthday Grinch (the curse of a December birthday) Last week I notched another year of wisdom and I might have done a little cry because it was that eurgh inducing. Curse you Birthday Goblin. To be fair, little can top the time I wore an owl suit for my 30th.

Singing Christmas karaoke, in a church in Camberwell, led by a drag queen called Ida Barr; the East End Music Hall superstar. It was very merry, it was very silly and it was just the trick to kickstart some late festive fun into me (even though the mulled cider ran out!)

The sky the other night looked straight out of a Tim Burton film. It just needed some snow to top it all off. I had Jack Skellington’s “what’s this, what’s this?” song in my mind for the rest of the night. It’s SO DRAMATIC don’t you think? I see you showing off there Full Moon!

I’m not even a little bit sorry for being that person. Putting hats on my little cats makes me Buddy the Elf level happy. This time round, Louie gets seasonal in a just-his-size Santa hat, complete with trim and bobble.

Mince Pie Mondays. Need I say more? Every year I tell myself I will make some from scratch, and every year I reach for a box or two in the supermarket. They are all good. I have 6 days left to redeem myself and get baking.

[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_single_image image=”14744″ img_size=”large”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_text_separator title=”DUMPLING CLASS” color=”custom” border_width=”2″ accent_color=”#ff8d6b”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_single_image image=”14747″ img_size=”large”][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1516901772026{padding-top: 100px !important;padding-right: 40px !important;padding-bottom: 100px !important;padding-left: 40px !important;background-color: #f8f3f0 !important;}”]

Looping back to Birthday things, we went to a dim sum making class. We learnt to make dough, mix fillings and mastered tricky folds. Many dumplings were eaten. It was a lot easier than I envisaged and you know, I may even try a recipe to post here.

As I learnt (again) over the weekend, there’s life outside of the tunnel vision I had dug myself into (again)

  1. thank you Alice! I had fun putting it together too- finally getting my head round to bit of ‘behind the scene’ blog design! Dim sum- it’s basically your choice of filling, corn flour, oil and water! really simple and really easy to make- who knew!! x

  2. Happy Birthday! Love this post – the little headings all make it look really awesome! Are the heading types part of your theme? They are so cute! x
