Dum Dum Donutterie

[dropcap]B[/dropcap]oxpark in Shoreditch opened up the shop of my dreams- DOUGHNUTS. Or to be precise, Dum Dum Donutterie. That’s right, keep your patisseries Mademoiselles, I’ll be hanging out at the Donutterie (if it’s good enough for Wayne and Garth…)

Paul Hurley founded Dum Dum Donutterie and has lived in Italy and France, perfecting the art of the humble doughnut. They sold out of doughnuts within hours on Opening Day- but amazingly, you can reserve a box for collection! I made my reservation online and had a box of lovely doughnuts at home the next day.

There are three kinds of boxes you can choose from,

1) CROS: a box of CRONUTS! Yes, they’ve made it across the pond.

2) The Doughnut Dozen: a dozen of the Donutterie’s selection of flavours (Banoffee- trust)

3) The Boxpark Mix Box: can’t make up your mind? This box has both cronuts and doughnuts.

I got a box of The Doughnut Dozen….

Dinner was a treat that night! Munching on donuts with the 80’s finest playing on the radio. I cut into the Creme Brulee flavoured doughnut- died and went to heaven. Then I cut into the Banoffee flavoured one- passed out. It was crazy delicious, banoffee cream IN a doughnut, with a toffee glaze. Unreal.

For the traditionalists, don’t worry. You can have your Jam Doughnut too.

Dum Dums comes with a twist…the doughnuts are baked, not fried. These beauties haven’t been swimming in oil. So you can have your doughnut AND your cake and eat it too, without feeling too guilty about it.  For me, they passed the taste test and I also think they’re best eaten on the day.I’m still smacking my lips over the Banoffee…and I haven’t even tried a Cronut yet.

If you can’t make it down to the Boxpark, keep an eye on their Westfield opening.

If you don’t hear from me soon- I’ve gone to Cronut heaven.

  1. The very thought of the banoffe one is making me drool slightly – the photograph is just too much!
